Home Articles Take a Peek, Find a Leak with Your Residential Water Meter Take a Peek, Find a Leak with Your Residential Water Meter Posted: Thursday, June 30, 2022 Want to know if you have a leak in your home? Checking your water meter is an easy way to keep track of your water use. Your water meter is usually located between the sidewalk and curb under a cement cover. Remove the cover by inserting a screwdriver in the hole in the lid, and lift the cover. The meter reads straight across, like the odometer on your car. Read only the white numbers (0000). Turn off all the water in your home, both indoor and outdoor faucets, and then check the dial for any movement of the low flow indicator. If there is movement, that indicates a possible leak between the meter and your plumbing system. For more water saving tips, visit: MesaWater.org/BeMesaWaterWise.
