Mesa Water District to Educate Orange County Students at 23rd Annual Children’s Water Education Festival

COSTA MESA, Calif.; March 20, 2019 — Mesa Water District is pleased to support the 23rd annual Children’s Water Education Festival – the largest of its kind in the United States – held March 27-28, 2019 at the University of California, Irvine. More than 7,500 third, fourth, and fifth grade Orange County students, including approximately 600 Newport-Mesa Unified School District students, are expected to attend.

“This festival provides an excellent opportunity to teach students that water is one of our most precious resources and vital to our community,” says Mesa Water® Board President, Shawn Dewane. “Additionally, Mesa Water is delighted to provide education to students throughout the school year, through our water education assemblies for fifth-grade classes in our service area.”

The award-winning Children’s Water Education Festival, presented by the Orange County Water District (OCWD), Disneyland Resort, National Water Research Institute and the OCWD Groundwater Guardian Team, teaches students about the environment and water resources. Mesa Water will host interactive water education sessions, in partnership with the Discovery Science Foundation, while also providing students with an opportunity to paint a water-themed mural with Costa Mesa-based Operation Clean Slate (OCS) – a nonprofit that involves students in the creation of brightly colored murals that beautify school campuses and communities.

Since its inception, more than 122,000 Orange County students have attended the festival, which is provided at no cost to schools. Presentations from approximately 60 organizations at the event meet K-12 Next Generation Science Standards.
