Mesa Water Hosts the Institute for Conservation Research and Education’s Virtual Poster Symposium for Local Students

COSTA MESA, Calif.; June 5, 2020 — Mesa Water District (Mesa Water®) is pleased to sponsor the Institute for Conservation Research and Education’s (ICRE) 2019-2020 high school field research program. This year’s research will cumulate with a Virtual Symposium Poster Presentation on June 11, with video presentations from each student group summarizing their research. The event includes students from Costa Mesa, Estancia, and Huntington Beach High Schools who will present their field data and conclusions from their research through the ICRE Ecological Field Studies Program, which teaches students about the environment and water resources.

DePasquale, Mesa Water Board Vice President. “During these challenging and unprecedented times, this celebration of the students’ hard work throughout the year is more important than ever. This program provides students with the unique opportunity to conduct real-world research and draw conclusions about how ecological concepts are at work in our local environment.”

A panel of expert environmentalists will review and provide feedback on the students’ video presentations, featuring their final research results.

A community partner, the ICRE is dedicated to environmental research and conservation. The organization aims to conserve and restore habitat used by native wildlife through community involvement, outreach, and education.

In addition to its partnership with ICRE, throughout the year Mesa Water supports several student water and science education programs. This includes, but is not limited to, providing water education assemblies for local fifth-graders; participation in the Children’s Water Education Festival, where Mesa Water hosts educational sessions in partnership with Discovery Science Foundation; and supporting Costa Mesa High School students with Solar Cup, where students apply math and physics skills, while learning about water resources and alternative energy development.
